The common fixes
Does Geovoya work without an internet connection?

Yes, once the phone is prepared. Setting a saved place or typed coordinates, playing a route you saved earlier, walk mode, GPX import and restoring the real location all run over the cable with no internet on either device. What needs a connection: map tiles, place search, planning a new road route, signing in or buying Pro, and — on iPhone — preparing the phone, because Apple signs the developer image per device. One catch: an iPhone drops that image every time it restarts, so restarting an iPhone while offline stops Geovoya setting locations on it until you are online again. Android has no equivalent step.

Does the location stay on the phone after I unplug it?

On iPhone, yes, from version 0.3.0. Geovoya sets the location through an Apple service that takes it as a single command rather than holding it open from your computer, so the point stays on the phone after the cable is gone. We measured one holding for over eight hours with nothing running on the computer, and it ended only because we cleared it; it lasts until you clear it or the phone restarts. That makes Restore real location matter more: an unplugged phone keeps reporting the simulated position, so press Restore when you are finished, and Geovoya warns you before closing if a phone is still simulating. The measurement was made from Windows; the macOS build uses the same Apple service but has not yet been verified with a physical phone. To keep changing the location without a cable, use Wi-Fi mode.

What does Geovoya do?

Geovoya is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that sets the GPS location of a connected iPhone or Android phone. You can hold a fixed point, play back a route on real roads, or, with Pro, walk around with a joystick and control up to three phones at once. It works over a USB cable or, once set up, the same Wi-Fi network.

Who is it for?

Developers and QA engineers testing location-aware apps on real devices, people who want to demo a product in another city, and privacy-minded users who don’t want to share their exact whereabouts in a specific context.

What’s free and what needs Pro?

The free plan covers one phone, fixed locations, two-stop road routes at 45 mph, 3 saved routes, place search and keyboard shortcuts. Pro adds walk mode, any route speed, multi-stop routes with loops and pauses, GPX/KML import and export, realistic movement, a 500-route library with on-map editing, up to three phones at once and cloud sync.

How much does Pro cost?

Pro is $15 per month or $129 per year, and $3 per month for verified students. Prices are shown in US dollars; the final amount, including any tax, is confirmed at checkout. You need a Geovoya account to subscribe, and you can cancel at any time from the billing portal.

Do I need to jailbreak or root my phone?

No. On iPhone, Geovoya uses Apple’s developer services, which you turn on with Developer Mode. On Android, it uses USB debugging and a mock-location helper app (Appium Settings) that Geovoya installs for you.

Which phones and computers are supported?

Computers: Windows 10/11 on 64-bit Intel or AMD processors, and macOS on Apple silicon or Intel. Windows on ARM and Linux are not supported. Phones: iPhone XS/XR or newer on iOS 17.4 or later, and Android 8.0 or later. Cable-free Android pairing needs Android 11 or later.

Does it work on my phone alone?

No. Geovoya is an app for your computer, not your phone: you need a Windows 10/11 PC or a Mac, and your phone’s USB cable to connect it the first time. After that it can also work over Wi-Fi. No jailbreak or root is needed.

How does the iPhone setup work?

It happens once, and Geovoya guides it live. Plug in and unlock the iPhone and tap Trust when the prompt appears. Click Show Developer Mode so the hidden switch appears (no Xcode needed), turn it on in Settings → Privacy & Security and restart. Geovoya then mounts Apple’s developer image automatically, including after every restart. On Windows, install Apple Devices from the Microsoft Store first.

Does it work over Wi-Fi?

Yes. Connect over USB first. Once the phone is ready, Geovoya offers Switch to Wi-Fi when your computer and phone share a network. The current location carries over and a running route continues. Android 11 and later can also pair without a cable. Wi-Fi mode has automated test coverage but has not yet been verified end to end on physical phones.

Do I need an account?

Not for the free plan. The app works without signing in. An account is needed for Pro: it holds your subscription, lets you sign in the app on up to three computers and keeps cloud sync working.

What does cloud sync store?

Cloud sync is off until you turn it on, on each computer: signing in uploads nothing by itself, and the app asks first. Once on, it stores saved places, recent places, your route library, play history and a few shared preferences such as speed and realistic-movement settings. It never syncs phone sessions, phone identifiers or live location. You can download everything or delete your cloud data from your account page at any time.

How do I get my real location back?

Click Restore real location. On Android this stops the mock-location service; on iPhone it sends the clear-location command. Other apps may take a moment to update. Unplugging on its own does not reliably restore the real location, so reconnect and press Restore if needed. Restarting the phone is a further fallback.

Does Geovoya collect my data?

The app has no telemetry or analytics. The map loads tiles from OpenStreetMap, place searches go to a Photon service, and planning a route sends the stop coordinates (with no device identifiers) to an OSRM service. If you use a Geovoya account, we store your email, subscription status, signed-in computers and, with cloud sync, the data listed above.

Why does my computer warn me when I open the app?

Current Geovoya builds are not code-signed, so macOS Gatekeeper and Windows SmartScreen may warn you. Compare the download with the published checksums first, and only continue if you trust the file. Signed installers are on the roadmap.

Will every app on my phone accept the simulated location?

Not necessarily. Some apps detect or reject simulated locations, and some cache an earlier position. Geovoya reports whether the phone accepted each command, but the only way to be sure is to check in the app you care about.

Is it OK to use Geovoya with any app?

Geovoya is made for app development, QA testing, demos and privacy. Many apps and services forbid falsified location in their terms. Only use it on devices you control, respect those terms and the law where you live, and never use it to deceive or harm people.

Where can I get the source code?

The full source is on GitHub under GPL-3.0-or-later. Geovoya is a fork of the open-source Ghost project. See the Open source page for details and third-party components.

Support

Report a bug

Email [email protected]. One person reads it, and a report with the details below usually gets a real answer rather than a round of questions. There is no public issue tracker: Geovoya’s development repository is private, so support runs on email.

  • Your Geovoya version — it is at the bottom of the app’s Settings.
  • Your computer: Windows or macOS, the version, and Apple silicon or Intel.
  • Your phone: model and OS version, and whether it was connected by USB or Wi-Fi.
  • The exact wording of the error, or the state the phone card was stuck in.
  • What you did just before it, and whether it happens every time.

Please strip phone serial numbers, UDIDs and real locations out of logs and screenshots first — we don’t need them and don’t want them. Before writing, it is worth checking the troubleshooting table, which covers most of what goes wrong the first time.

Billing, refunds and privacy requests go to the same address; see refunds and privacy.
